Plymouth is a city situated on the south coast of Devon, England, approximately 37 miles south-west of Exeter and 190 miles west-south-west of London. Along with the rest of South West England, Plymouth has a temperate oceanic climate which is generally wetter and milder than the rest of England. This means a wide range of exotic plants can be grown. Because of its coastal location, the economy of Plymouth has traditionally been maritime, in particular the defence sector. The Plymouth Gin Distillery has been producing Plymouth Gin since 1793. Devonport Dockyard is the UK's only naval base that refits nuclear submarines and the Navy estimates that the Dockyard generates about 10% of Plymouth's income.
