Dundee

Dundee is Scotland's fourth-largest city and the 51st-most-populous built-up area in the United Kingdom. It lies within the eastern central Lowlands on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, which feeds into the North Sea. Under the name of Dundee City, it forms one of the 32 council areas used for local government in Scotland. Rapid expansion was brought on by the Industrial Revolution, particularly in the 19th century when Dundee was the centre of the global jute industry. Today, Dundee is promoted as "One City, Many Discoveries" in honour of Dundee's history of scientific activities and of the RRS Discovery, Robert Falcon Scott's Antarctic exploration vessel, which was built in Dundee and is now berthed at Discovery Point. Dundee accounts for 10% of the United Kingdom's digital-entertainment industry.

University of Dundee

The University of Dundee is a public research university based in the city and royal burgh of Dundee on the east coast of the central Lowlands of Scotland. Founded in 1881 the institution was, for most of its early existence, a constituent college of the University of St Andrews alongside United College and St Mary's College located in the town of St Andrews itself. Following significant expansion, the University of Dundee became an independent body in 1967 whilst retaining much of its ancient heritage and governance structure. The main campus of the university is located in Dundee's West End. The university has additional facilities at Ninewells Hospital; and in Kirkcaldy, Fife, containing part of its school of nursing and midwifery.
